The 88-acre Best Slough Vernal Pool Preserve located in Yuba County consists of preserved and restored vernal pool and swales, and Swainson’s hawk foraging habitat.

The Preserve is owned by Yuba-Sutter Disposal, Inc. as a buffer for the Ostrom Road Landfill and was approved by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service as mitigation for the Three River Levee Improvements Authority’s Feather River, Bear River, and Western Pacific Interceptor Canal Levee Improvement Projects.
