Land Transferred to SCPRT and Catawba Indian Nation Following Ecological Success

CHARLESTON, SC – RES, a leader in ecological restoration and nature-based solutions, is proud to announce the completion and transfer of its Permittee-Responsible Mitigation (PRM) project developed for Gallo Wineries in Lancaster County. This milestone marks the closeout of a successful endeavor to offset environmental impacts from Gallo Wineries’ manufacturing facility expansion, leaving a legacy of ecological restoration and community enrichment.

The 501-acre site, now part of a permanent conservation easement, has been transferred to the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism (SCPRT) and the Catawba Indian Nation. Approximately 32 acres have been donated to the Catawba Indian Nation, while the remaining land expands the adjacent Landsford Canal State Park, enriching the region’s recreational and environmental assets. RES will maintain and monitor the site’s activities to ensure its long-term success.

“This project is a testament to RES’ commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship,” said Chris Smith, Southeast Regional Manager at RES. “We are honored to have worked with Gallo Wineries to create a project that not only meets regulatory requirements but also delivers tangible benefits for the environment and local communities.”

The site’s transformation demonstrates the power of innovative restoration techniques, regulatory collaboration, and a shared vision for conservation. By addressing erosion, enhancing aquatic habitats, and preserving biodiversity, RES has created a model for meaningful ecological restoration.
