RES completed the restoration of 86 acres of wetlands and 3,700 feet of stream as part of a large watershed-scale headwater stream and wetland restoration project in Osceola Township, Tioga County, PA. Finished in December 2022, the project utilized various techniques, including floodplain and wetland restoration strategies designed based on site-specific geotechnical and hydrologic investigations. These investigations informed the removal of ditches, tiles, and fill, as well as grading adjustments to restore historic hydrology. In areas with compacted soil, RES implemented decompaction and created microtopographic variances to enhance water retention and restore wetland conditions. The project also incorporated surface woody debris and brush to improve habitat and carbon availability, and all areas were planted with native wetland vegetation. Now in its second year of monitoring, the project exemplifies RES’s commitment to ecological restoration and long-term stewardship.
