The Bluebird Mitigation Bank aims to restore and enhance wetlands and streams, providing essential ecological benefits to Lorain County, OH, specifically in Columbia Station Township.

The project’s total area is approximately 450 acres and is expected to produce 181 wetland credits and 6,098 stream credits. The first credit release, expected this fall, will include 63 wetland credits and 610 stream credits.

For impacts to federally jurisdictional waters, the service area will encompass the entire Black-Rocky 8-digit Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC 04110001) watershed in Ohio. For impacts to isolated Category 1 wetlands of any size or impacts to isolated Category 2 wetlands authorized under a level 1 review, the service area includes the entire Ohio portion of the Buffalo Regulatory Corps District (ORC §6111.022).

The Bluebird Mitigation Bank will re-establish 137 acres of wetlands, rehabilitate 18, and enhance and preserve 177 acres of wetlands. Additionally, the project will re-establish, enhance, and preserve 68 acres of uplands, restore 2,305 feet of stream, and rehabilitate and re-establish buffers along 8,266 feet of stream.

This ambitious project will significantly contribute to the region’s ecological health, providing critical habitats for wildlife and enhancing water quality in the service area.
