The Clinton Avenue Stormwater Wetland is a green stormwater infrastructure project designed to improve community resilience, water quality, and ecological function in Milwaukee. The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD), which coordinates water management across 29 municipalities and six watersheds, partnered with Greenprint Partners and RES to deliver this innovative solution.

The project creates a constructed wetland system that provides both functional stormwater management and ecological benefits. Engineered to handle up to 1.6-million gallons of stormwater per rainfall event, the system reduces flooding risk, filters pollutants, and supports biodiversity. In addition to its environmental performance, the wetland serves as a key infrastructure component supporting a future mixed-use development, demonstrating how engineered nature-based solutions can complement urban growth.

Client Benefits
• Manages up to 1.6M gallons of stormwater per event
• Enhances water quality through natural filtration and sediment capture
• Supports regional resilience across six interconnected watersheds
• Provides wildlife habitat and boosts local biodiversity
• Serves as a model for integrating green infrastructure into urban redevelopment
• Improves community aesthetics and creates potential for public engagement and education
