To support the 194 megawatt (MW) Green River Wind Project, which features 74 turbines, RES and its affiliated mitigation sponsor, First Indiana Resources, designed and implemented a comprehensive mitigation solution to offset the project’s impacts on federally listed bat species. This project operates within the geographic ranges of the endangered Indiana bat (IBAT) and northern long-eared bat (NLEB), requiring compliance with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) habitat mitigation standards.

Mitigation Solution

To satisfy the conditions of the project’s 30-year Incidental Take Permit (ITP), we secured conservation easements across 123.38 acres of priority bat habitat in the Vermilion River watershed, a recognized conservation area in Illinois. The protected forested lands offer summer roosting and foraging habitat for:

  • Indiana bat (IBAT): 65 credits
  • Northern long-eared bat (NLEB): 131 credits

RES delivered a turnkey solution by supplying all required land and managing full delivery of all mitigation components, reaffirming its role as a leader in ecological stewardship.

Project Highlights

  • Long-term ecological protection: 30-year commitment ensures habitat continuity
  • Species-inclusive planning: Flexibility to adapt and expand mitigation for emerging species at risk
  • Local ecosystem enhancement: Supports regional biodiversity within high-priority conservation areas
  • Turnkey delivery model: Single-source accountability from design to delivery
