The Hickory Lake Creek Mitigation Bank provides high-quality, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers–approved compensatory mitigation for unavoidable impacts to wetlands within the Calcasieu Basin. By restoring native wetland ecosystems and natural site hydrology, the bank supports regional biodiversity, enhances water quality, and improves flood resilience through increased stormwater retention.

Restoration Objectives

  • Re-establish, rehabilitate, enhance, and preserve 301.6 acres of wetlands.
  • Re-establish and rehabilitate 196.4 acres of pine savannah wetlands, 74.2 acres of bottomland hardwood wetlands, and 31 acres of non-mitigation uplands.

Ecological Impact

Hickory Lake Creek provides habitat for diverse plant and animal species. Restoration efforts have returned natural hydrology to the site, improving ecosystem function and connectivity across the basin.
