The Paradis Mitigation Bank delivers high-quality, Corps-approved compensatory wetland mitigation within Louisiana’s Barataria Basin. Once an energy production landscape, the former Paradis Field is being transformed into one of the nation’s largest wetland mitigation banks. This project enhances, restores, and protects thousands of acres of vital marsh and forested wetlands.

Ecological Impact

The project converts former pastureland back to functioning wetlands, which act as a natural buffer against floods and high winds, increasing stormwater storage, filtering runoff to improve water quality, providing habitat for native wildlife, and sequestering carbon. These functions strengthen regional resilience to hurricanes while restoring biodiversity.

Project Highlights

  • Restoration of more than 5,000 wetland acres via pastureland conversion
  • Functions as a natural buffer against floods, provides stormwater storage, and buffers high winds
  • Filters stormwater and removes excess nutrients/impurities to improve water quality
  • Enhances biodiversity by expanding habitat for native plants and wildlife
  • Promotes carbon sequestration
