The Prairie Stream Mitigation Bank was established to provide high-quality compensatory mitigation for unavoidable impacts to jurisdictional wetlands regulated by the USACE Chicago District, as well as impacts to Isolated Waters of Lake County (IWLC) under the authority of the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission. This restoration effort enhances both aquatic and upland ecosystems, ensuring long-term ecological benefits for the region.

Project Objectives

  • Wetland Restoration: Re-establish 29 acres and rehabilitate 10 acres of wetlands
  • Upland Habitat Creation: Establish 30 acres of mesic/dry-mesic prairie and oak woodland

Ecological Impact

Through careful restoration and management, Prairie Stream will transform into a rich mosaic of high-quality wetland and upland habitats. The site will support diverse aquatic ecosystems, thriving prairies, and resilient oak woodlands, providing lasting ecological value and sustainable habitat for native wildlife.
