The Saylers Creek Stream and Wetland Mitigation Bank spans approximately 1,012.67 acres across two project areas: the Saylers Creek Site and Boxwood Farms. This mitigation bank was established to provide compensatory mitigation for permitted wetland and stream impacts within its approved service area, in accordance with Sections 401 and 404 of the Clean Water Act.
Through in-stream and riparian buffer restoration efforts, Saylers Creek helps reestablish and protect natural stream characteristics, such as channel pattern, profile, and dimension, ultimately restoring the stream’s natural functions, stability, and ecological health.
Additionally, the project includes wetland restoration and enhancement along the floodplains of Little Saylers Creek and Saylers Creek. These efforts reconnect the streams to their historic floodplains, improving both onsite and downstream water quality. Key benefits include reduced bank erosion, lower in-stream sedimentation and nutrient loading, and enhanced vegetation and wildlife habitat in both stream and riparian areas.
