RES is the nation’s leading provider of ecological solutions.

Iowa totals nearly 36 million acres with over 80 percent of those acres dedicated to agricultural production. Because of this, our approach concentrates on relationships with landowners that work alongside those production acres to focus on land where economics of ecological projects may make more financial sense. In addition to farm and pasture acres, Iowa’s landscape also features wetlands, prairies, rivers, lakes and woodlands with habitat for pheasants and whitetail deer. This includes a glacial advance in the center of the state with some of the best farmland in the world, the unique Loess Hills along the Missouri River where silt was deposited to form this land formation and a Southern Drift Plain with extensive hills and forests.

Iowa is a leader in the development of renewable fuels with now over 35 percent of their electricity produced by wind and nearly 7,000 Megawatts of installed capacity. This energy development along with other linear projects have created demands for wetland and habitat solutions. The state has also been successful in attracting large-scale economic development projects with large footprints that require mitigating impacts along with the integration of ecologically improved sites to go along with the corporate culture of the project.

In addition to the private sector needs, Iowa has seen large-scale public investment into watersheds that impact flooding, nutrient reduction, habitat development, and recreation. One example is the Middle Cedar Watershed in eastern Iowa investing over $50 million throughout the next 20 years from a variety of public sources focused on multiple environmental benefits.

We work directly with clients to provide high-quality, client-centric solutions. In total, RES has reduced over 1,049,846 pounds of nutrients; restored over 686 miles of stream, 77,736 acres of wetlands, and 20,400 acres of endangered species habitats; and planted over 28 million restorative trees.

RES offers several ecological solutions to address the challenges faced by Iowa, including:

  • Early stage solution development to work alongside economic development project site selection;
  • Integration of innovative ecological projects within industrial and commercial project sites to improve the aesthetics of the site and meet corporate goals of the client; and
  • Habitat solutions to offset current and future impacts of renewable energy development.
