Following Hurricanes Laura and Delta in 2020, the City of Lake Charles launched the #ReTreeLC campaign to restore three heavily damaged public parks: Hillcrest Park, Buddy Prejean Memorial Park, and Grace and Medora Park. RES collaborated with the City’s parks department, mayor’s office, and local educational and nonprofit organizations to implement a comprehensive restoration plan.

Our team planted over 350 trees and over 2,000 native grasses across the three parks. The restoration work took place over two days, with site preparation on the first day and a community tree-donation event on the second, which coincided with Arbor Day. Local volunteers and RES crews from our Lake Charles and Lafayette offices worked alongside Firestone Polymers and Bridgestone, whose support was instrumental in making the initiative possible.

RES provided plant material, installation, and strategic maintenance throughout the project, which was completed in 2022. Our commitment extended beyond planting, as we continued to monitor and maintain the health of the newly installed vegetation over the following months. We were honored to support the City’s restoration efforts and help rebuild these vital community spaces.
