Surrounded by other protected lands and placed under permanent conservation easement, the site preserves critical habitat for California tiger salamander (Ambystoma californiense), California red-legged frog (Rana draytonii), Alameda whipsnake (Masticophis longirostris), and golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), while providing adjacent upland areas that support breeding, foraging, and movement habitat for multiple listed species.

Positioned within the East Bay’s dynamic mosaic of grasslands and oak woodlands, Ohlone East serves as a cornerstone habitat site that strengthens the region’s broader ecological network.
